The months that went by- July 1 to August 27

 As we look back on the months that have passed, our school has been a hub of activity, creativity, and growth. From exciting events and engaging academic programs to innovative initiatives , our students, teachers, and staff have worked together to make this a memorable and enriching experience.

Following are highlights of some of the key happenings, achievements, and milestones from the months of July and August

July 7 -On July 7th, the school celebrated World chocolate day with the home science department organizing a vibrant food stall featuring a variety of chocolate-based goodies.

A fireless cooking workshop was organized for students of Grade VIII

Ms.Anet a Baker and Confectioner led the workshop giving the students a hands-on experience. It showcased the joy  of exploring new topics beyond the regular curriculum .

On July 11th ,“Changadhik oru Maram” A welcome initiative by, Kerala Karma padadhi to promote environmental sustainability and nurture a sense of responsibility towards nature was inaugurated in school by Ex- municipal chairperson Mr. Santosh Kumar and Director Mr.N.J Mathew by planting a sapling in the School grounds and Students gifting saplings to their friends.

On July 11th – Apollo 11 a digital dramatization showcasing the first landing of man on moon was presented by Science film director Mr.Danoj Raveendra Naik . Students of Grades IV to X appreciated the event organised in connection with the International Moon Day.

SMART BRAINS – SMART MINDS– An interactive session was held by Dr. Varghese P. Punnose, Principal and Professor of Psychiatry of Government Medical College Kottayam on “SMART BRAINS – SMART MINDS,” focusing on brain development, mental well-being, and strategies for academic success. The session covered topics such as promoting healthy brain development, managing stress and anxiety, and building positive relationships. Through engaging discussions and real-life examples, Dr. Punnose empowered students with practical tips and insights to enhance their cognitive abilities and emotional intelligence. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing students to clarify their doubts and share their thoughts.

EDUCATIONAL VISIT – As part of their Business Studies project on Principles of Management, Grade XII Commerce students visited Chandrans Steel Factory, Coimbatore (27th August) and NC John Garments Pvt. Ltd., Tiruppur (28th August).

At Chandrans Steel Factory, students observed high-tech machinery, raw material processing, and large-scale production, gaining insights into industrial safety and management practices. At NC John Garments, they explored the textile production process—cutting, stitching, designing, and quality checks—understanding the role of precision, creativity, and standards in exports. The visits provided valuable exposure to real-world applications of management principles, linking classroom learning with industry practices. 

Why Series! – Ever wondered why things work the way they do? Our students break it down with simple, fun, and surprising answers — straight from curiosity to clarity!
Join us every Sunday for the “Why Series” where in each episode, students explain everyday questions — why things work the way they do, why they matter, and how they connect to our world.
NO-BAG DAY – As part of CBSE’s NO-BAG DAY initiative, students of Grade 9 and 10 participated in a day-long session on “Emotional Well-Being and Value Education”. The session was facilitated by Mr. Abhilash Joseph, Director of Lifetech Solutions, a lead trainer at IPCAI, and Assistant Prof. of Sociology and Psychology at the Kerala University of Life Sciences.
The session was a great mix of fun, learning and unlearning through experimental learning enhancing students’ understanding of the importance of emotional well-being, ways to cultivate it and how value education can contribute to overall development.
BHAVASUDHA 2025 – The CBSE Bhavasudha Youth Festival offstage events were conducted in our school on 13th September 2025. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Nini Abraham, Principal of Mar Baselios School, Kottayam, and was a grand success.

Educational Visit – Grade 11 and 12 History and Political Science students had a field trip to Mysore, visiting Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace, St. Philomena’s Church, Payana Car Museum, Melkote, and Sukavana. The trip highlighted the cultural, political, and historical significance of these landmarks

Entrepreneurship Learning By Doing Activity ( XII)
Marshmallow and Noodle Stick Activity
Objective
To encourage teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and communication this fun activity can be performed in the class
Materials Required (per team)
1 packet of uncooked noodle sticks (spaghetti works best)
1 packet of marshmallow
Stopwatch/timer
Measuring scale (to check the tallest structure)
Instructions
1. Form Teams – Divide the class into two small groups of 4 students.
2. Distribute Materials – Each team gets the same number of noodle sticks and few marshmallow – as per teacher calculation .
3. Explain Rules:
Build the tallest free-standing structure possible within the time limit.
The marshmallow should be used to stick the noodles stick.
No external support (walls, tables, or holding with hands) is allowed.
Only given materials can be used.
4. Set Time Limit – Usually 15–20 minutes is enough.
5. Start Building– Teams brainstorm, plan, and construct their towers.
6. Judge the Structures – At the end of the time, measure each tower.
7. Declare Winner – The tallest stable structure with the marshmallow on top wins.
8. Reward – The winning team gets to eat the marshmallow (or you may give marshmallows to everyone as a fun closure).

Educational Visit – As part of the project work in Business studies based on the topic Principles of management , Grade XII Comerce students on 27th August visited ‘Chandrans Steel Factory’ in Coimbatore.
Chandran steel factory is a leading kitchen equipment manufacturer that offers custom stainless steel to hotels and restaurants.
We collected information on applicability of Principles of management through the questionnaire.
Also we could observe the high tech machines and the processes undergone in producing steel products. We learned how raw materials are handled, processed and turned into finished goods. This gave us a clear understanding of industrial safety measures and large scale production techniques.

On the second day,28th August we visited ‘NC John Garments Pvt Ltd’ Thirupur where we gained insights into the textile industry.
We saw how fabric goes through different stages such as cutting,stitching,designing and quality checking before becoming finished garments ready for export.
This helped us understand the importance of precision, creativity and quality standards in the textile sector.
From this industrial visit we learned better understanding of by machinery, production techniques and safety practices,linking theoretical concepts with real world applications .

We are exceedingly proud to announce that our student short film “PAPER SKIES”—written, directed, shot, and edited entirely by our talented students—has won the “Special Jury Mention” along with a cash prize of ₹5000/- at the Short Film Competition 2025 organized by TALKS India.
The competition was based on the theme “Responsible Society: It Starts With Me.

The cast and crew of Paper Skies includes students of Grades 11 and 12 from the Political Science Department, along with Leonel Roobesh from Grade 2.

JUNIOR SCHOOL ONAM CELEBRATIONS – 2025 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 26 ന് ജൂനിയർ സ്കൂൾ ഓണാഘോഷം പൂർണ്ണ ഊർജ്ജസ്വലതയോടെയും വർണ്ണാഭമായും നടന്നു. ജോയ്ഫുൾ ബിഗിനേഴ്‌സ് മുതൽ ഗ്രേഡ് IV വരെയുള്ള വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ ഓണത്തിന്റെ സന്തോഷം പങ്ക് വയ്ക്കുന്ന വൈവിധ്യമാർന്ന പരിപാടികൾ അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. കുട്ടികൾ ഉത്സാഹത്തോടെ ഓണം ആഘോഷിച്ചപ്പോൾ, ഉജ്ജ്വലമായ ഗാനങ്ങൾ, ചടുലനൃത്തങ്ങൾ, ഓണത്തിൻ്റെ തനിമ ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന തിരുവാതിര,വഞ്ചിപ്പാട്ട് തുടങ്ങിയവയാൽ ഓണാഘോഷം നിറവാർന്നു.

 

SENIOR SCHOOL ONAM CELEBRATIONS – Our school came alive with color and cheer as we celebrated Onam through vibrant cultural performances, the joyful visit of Maveli, a traditional Onasadya, and spirited games. Wishing everyone peace, prosperity, and happiness this Onam.

 

EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP – As a part of an experiential learning initiative, Fashion studies and Home science visited a local antique shop. The shop offered a captivating collection of artifacts, from intricately carved furniture, traditional utensils and age – old decor pieces. The purpose of this visit is to ignite creative thinking and inspire design innovation. Encouraging them to observe and analyze traditional design elements and to develop original motifs and design concepts from the textures, patterns and craftsmanship observed in the antiques

 

JWALA 2025 – The curtain rose on Jwala – Excelsior English School’s Youth Festival for 2025-26, with a show of culture and creativity. The Chief Guest for the occasion was known Malayalam actor, Shri. P N Sunny, known for his roles in movies such as Spadikam and Joji. Following the lighting of the lamp, the festival was declared open by Director Mr. N J Mathew. The three-day festival was a wonderful celebration of fiery talent and youthful spirit.

Azadi Ka Utsav” ( Cultural Fiesta) 15th August 2025
Excelsior English School celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with a series of enriching cultural programs designed to instill patriotism and appreciation for our nation’s heritage among students and staff. The celebration was held on August 15, 2025, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from the entire school community.
The day commenced with a dignified flag hoisting ceremony followed by a solemn rendition of the national anthem by all present. This was a powerful moment of unity and respect for the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
Following the flag hoisting, a vibrant cultural program unfolded in the school pavilion showcasing the artistic and patriotic spirit of our students.
The cultural programs effectively underscored the school’s commitment to nurturing patriotism and civic values in its students, ensuring that the spirit of freedom and unity resonated throughout the celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day.

“Tiranga Tribute” – Patriotic Dress Competition
As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Social Science Department organized a Patriotic Dress Competition on August 15, 2025, where students across grades showcased creativity and national pride through vibrant costumes reflecting India’s rich history and culture.

A Resounding Success: Independence Day Quiz Competition “Unleash the Patriot”
Today, August 13, 2025, witnessed a thrilling display of knowledge and patriotism as the Independence Day Quiz Competition unfolded, sparking a renewed appreciation for India’s rich history and hard-fought freedom. The event, held by the Social Science Department in anticipation of the 79th Independence Day, successfully engaged participants and spectators alike, creating an atmosphere of vibrant learning and celebration.

Celebrating Freedom through Art: Independence Day Bulletin Board Competition – “Honouring Freedom, Inspiring the Future”
Today, August 13, 2025 the Social Science Department conducted a vibrant Bulletin Board Competition. Classes demonstrated remarkable creativity, transforming simple boards into powerful narratives of India’s journey to freedom and its glorious future. The bulletin boards covered a diverse range of themes, showcasing the depth of participants’ understanding and appreciation for India’s independence. This competition served as an excellent platform for students to delve deeper into India’s history, understand the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, and express their patriotism through a creative outlet.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2025 – From proud salutes to inspiring words — our Investiture Ceremony 2025 was all about leadership, responsibility and stepping up to challenges. The newly elected Student Council leaders stepped into their new roles with style, ready to lead, guide and shine!
Proud parents, teachers and mentors – each have played a part in the journey of these young leaders as they spread their wings and soar in their new roles.
The Chief Guest for the Investiture was Mr. Joe A. Scaria, a senior journalist with decades of experience including The Economic Times, Chennai. He’s currently the Kerala Correspondent of the Gulf News, Dubai, as well as Faculty member at the Institute of Journalism, Thiruvananthapuram and at the Amal Jyothi College of Engineering Kanjirapally. He is also the author of ‘Fourth Estate to Rubber Estate’ as well as the host of the popular YouTube channel Joe-metric View

AN INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH DR. SHASHI THAROOR – Students of Excelsior English School had a stimulating interaction with Dr. Shashi Tharoor, at the recently held Talks India event at CMS College, Kottayam. Dr. Tharoor spoke about his vision for Kerala’s development, and discussed key themes like retaining talent in Kerala, and empowering youth to be agents of change.
The extended Q&A session was an empowering opportunity for our students to ask questions, reflect, and have a thoughtful exchange of ideas about Kerala’s young citizens, with the MP.

Excelsior English School Marks World Nature Conservation Day with “Changathikku Oru Maram”

On July 28, Grade VI students of Excelsior English School celebrated World Nature Conservation Day with an eco-friendly initiative titled “Changathikku Oru Maram” (A Tree for a Friend). The event, graced by Sri. M. P. Santhosh Kumar, former Municipal Chairman of Kottayam, saw students exchanging saplings as symbols of friendship and environmental responsibility. The campus buzzed with energy as they planted trees and pledged to care for them together.

Educational Visit to Jaipur – Students from the departments of Fashion Studies and Home Science undertook an educational visit to Jaipur, with the aim of gaining firsthand exposure to traditional textile crafts and modern garment production. The visit included stops at Sanganer and Bagru, the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design (IICD), and a ready-made garment factory.
The students explored the renowned textile hubs of Sanganer and Bagru, known for their age-old techniques of hand block printing and tie and dye.
The visit proved highly educational and enriching. It bridged classroom learning with practical exposure to both traditional and modern textile techniques. The interaction with artisans, designers, and industry professionals broadened the students’ understanding of the fashion and textile landscape in India.

Practical Application of Entrepreneurship Concepts:
To promote experiential learning, Class XI Entrepreneurship students are participating in a hands-on activity focused on product development. As part of this initiative, students are creating model boxes for their own products, naming them, and introducing innovative business ideas. This activity aims to develop their creativity, marketing sense, and entrepreneurial thinking by simulating a real-world product launch scenario.

World Chocolate Day Celebration at School-World Chocolate Day, celebrated every year on July 7, is a delightful occasion to appreciate one of the world’s most loved treats — chocolate. To mark this sweet day, the Home Science department organized a vibrant food stall featuring a tempting variety of chocolate-based goodies. It was indeed a day of indulgence and joy, celebrating the magic of chocolate in the best way possible.

✨✨Celebrating Outstanding Achievement !✨✨  Grade X and XII CBSE Results 2024 -’25 – “A resounding success that showcases the exceptional talent and tireless efforts of our students and educators!” Congratulations to our Students and Teachers on this incredible achievement!

Highlights

The school’s project, Oru Kai Oru Pothi, provides a packet of food to the poor and needy once a month. This initiative, ongoing for many years, aims to instill in students a sense of social responsibility and compassion for others in need. The collected food packets are handed over to the Navjeevan Trust, led by Mr. P U. Thomas, also known as Thomas Chettan. Students from grades V to XII contribute around 400 to 425 packets of food each month. The residents of Navjeevan either collect the packets from the school or receive them at the trust. We look forward to continuing this meaningful project.

The Pathfinders 2024 initiated a project to support hungry birds. They have placed bird feeders throughout the school campus. They are filled with bird feed and hung on the branches of the trees on the campus. Kudos to the team🤝
